Jean-Noël Chazelle is a French artist born in Dakar and based in Montmartre, Paris. His work spans painting, sculpture, performance, installation, photography, film, and sound. After years of performances at the Cledalique Gallery—created by Salvador Dalí and Miette in Cadaqués—he returned to painting in 1997, experimenting with acrylic on plexiglass. His first major exhibition at Sacha Tarassof led him to the U.S., where his work became part of prestigious collections, including those of the DeRosa family (Guggenheim), Bob and Mary Decelles, and the Joseph Nahmad collection.
In addition to his visual art, Chazelle is an accomplished poet. His first book, Star-Blood, was published by Poet Republik in California and quickly sold out. He has exhibited internationally, including Berlin in 2019, where he read poetry for the William S. Burroughs Estate and the Allen Ginsberg Trust. His second book, Pearl Eye Medium, was released in 2022, followed by Le Sang de l’Étoile in 2024. His contributions to the arts earned him the Award of Merit at FIAC 2021 in Paris and an invitation to Athens in 2022 for a solo exhibition and philosophy conference, Apex Hapax.
In 2024, Chazelle will receive the Golden Artemis prize in the presence of the Greek Minister of Culture. His work is now permanently featured in the Poet House Library in New York City, cementing his place in contemporary art and literature.
